What fashion retouching covers
A fashion image has to show the clothes properly and still keep the photographer's look. Work on a fashion job can include:
- Fabric: creases, lint, loose threads and marks left by the shoot.
- Fit: how a garment sits on the body, without changing what the garment is.
- Skin and hair: blemishes and flyaways, with the skin's texture kept.
- Color: matching the garment to the real fabric and keeping tones consistent across a story.
- Backgrounds: removing stands, wires, floor marks and seams, or extending a set to suit a layout.
- Composites: combining the best head, pose or hand from different frames.
Editorial, cover or campaign
The same image can need different work depending on where it runs. An editorial usually keeps more of the photographer's character. A cover needs room for the masthead and files that are ready for print. A campaign may run in print, outdoors and online at the same time, so it takes more planning.
